On Thursday, June 13, at the Central Geophysical Observatory in Belsk, a modern Research Infrastructure Center for Geomagnetic and Magnetotelluric Observations was opened. GeoElMag is coordinated by the Institute of Geophysics PAS and the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography as part of the EPOS-PL project. European Plate Observation System. |

The GeoElMag laboratory is not only a great success, but also a milestone in improving the quality of magnetic and magnetotelluric observations conducted for many years in the Central Geophysical Observatory of the Institute of Geophysics PAS in Belsk. Work related to the creation of the laboratory began in September 2017 and absorbed more than PLN 1,400,000 from the European Regional Development Fund and the Geophysics Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences - says dr inż. Dorota Olszewska, project manager of EPOS-PL. |
|
The funds from the EPOS-PL project supplemented the infrastructure of the GeoElMag laboratory with modern research equipment, first of all with magnetometers for recording three orthogonal magnetic field components, the field awaited by scientists for registration of the total field, which will be installed in the Observatory in Belsk and Spitsbergen. |

The EPOS-PL project assumed that the GeoElMag laboratory could be used commercially from December 2021, while scientists will still have non-commercial access to it.
